Tony Blair to receive SMU’s Tower Center Medal of Freedom
Southern Methodist University's John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies has previously honored five individuals by presenting them with their Medal of Freedom. Great Britain's ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair will soon be joining the ranks of Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher, George H.W. Bush, Tommy Franks and John McCain. (Anyone else seeing a pattern here?)
The Tower Center - named for SMU alumnus and long-time U.S. Senator John Tower - educates undergrads in the fields of international relations, comparative politics and political institutions. Their Medal of Freedom is bestowed every two years upon an individual who has "furthered the cause of freedom throughout the world.” It says here.
The formal presentation ceremony has been set for March 5, 2008; further information can be obtained by calling 214-768-8283.
