The 2010 reform goals are part of Dallas Superintendent Michael Hinojosa's desire to make DISD the country's top urban school district (Dallas Achieves). The farthest reaching goal, in his opinion, is raising scores on the math and science portions of the TAKS test and other college readiness tests. In more detail, a five-year plan was set in 2005 to reach a 90% TAKS passing rate on all sections across all socio-economic, ethnic, and racial groups in the DISD. Hinojosa admits now that the goal is highly improbable.
Last year only 58% passed science and 66% passed math. A report commissioned by the district also found that only 6% of DISD graduates last year were "college ready."
