DALLAS The Dallas Mavericks finally won a game, beating the high-flying Utah Jazz 125-117 in front of U.S. soldiers in Dallas. On a night where both teams shot 60%, the Mavs were ultimately victorious, relying heavily on Josh Howard to once again carry the team on his shoulders.
Howard had the best statistical game of his life, scoring 47 points on 14-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-5 from the three-point line, while also making 15 of 17 free throws. For good measure, Howard also added ten rebounds, six of them off the offensive glass. It was the sixth-highest scoring total in franchise history.
Dirk Nowitzki had a surprisingly quiet night, scoring just 16 points and collecting 8 rebounds, but on a night where all five Mavs starters scored in double digits, a heroic effort from the reigning NBA MVP was not necessary. Eric Dampier scored 21 points, Jason Terry added 19 and Devin Harris put up ten points, 12 assists and three steals. The Mavs shot 59.7% from the field, 56.2% from the three point line and were able to contain Utah's various point surges, including the third quarter where Utah shot above 80% yet gained only two points on the Mavs' lead.
The win improved the Mavs to 13-8 on the year.
