Kansas City group lobbying for daily train service to Dallas
A Kansas City-based volunteer group called The Northern Flyer Alliance is trying to get train service between Kansas City and Dallas off the ground. The train service would run daily between Kansas City and Dallas, with stops in Oklahoma City and Wichita, beginning in 2010. They'd have to use tracks currently used for freight trains. The cost is estimated at $6.5 million for upgrades and $12.7 million in annual funding, and the money would come from the states in which the trains travel (as opposed to Amtrak).

I hope that the Northern Flyer Alliance does a better job with train-planning than it does with fact-checking. It talks about extending the current Oklahoma City-Dallas route to Kansas City. Folks, there ain't no train between Oklahoma City-Dallas. There is one, however, between Oklahoma City-Fort Worth, the Heartland Flyer. I'm sure the folks in Cowtown will not be pleased to learn that Dallas has hijacked their train.

Hope this happens. Seems idiotic to me that the Heartland Flyer stops in Fort Worth without continuing on to Dallas.
The more rail we can get connected to, the better.

There is Amtrak service between Fort Worth and Dallas via the Texas Eagle, though this is also served by the TRE on every day except Sundays and holidays.
When my fiance rode Amtrak from Fort Worth to Norman, OK over Thanksgiving, we talked to the station attendant about this extension. I am all in favor of expanding train service, and I'd encourage anyone who uses the train to pitch in and help this campaign by writing letters - which is what the station attendant asked us to do.
