Fort Worth Lockheed Martin workers urging Congress to continue buying their F-22s
How many F-22 Raptors does America need?
The U.S. Defense Department recently announced its plans to cease production of the aircraft over the next three years (after purchasing a final 60, bringing the total to 183).
But the Lockheed Martin employees who produce the air superiority fighter, including 1,800 fuselage builders in Fort Worth, are rallying together with lawmakers in the House and Senate to urge Defense Secretary Robert Gates to cease ceasing production. Starscream has offered his moral support.
As the S-T notes, canceling the program would affect aircraft-assembly plants in three U.S. cities and more than 1,000 suppliers in 44 states.
