Team Lost-Cauze and Dallas NAACP announce “Tech Camp - Choice Awareness Campaign”
DALLAS On December 14, 2007, the “Tech Camp-Choice Awareness Campaign” will be launched at the Oak Cliff Girls and Boys Club from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Choice Awareness Campaign is a cooperative effort of businesses and organizations joined together to present to youth the opportunities in education, technology and professional careers through video games throughout 2007 & 2008. Rafik “LoSt-CaUze” Bryant, Professional World Champion Quake 4 Gamer and his team will facilitate an after school and week end program to introduce the multi-billion dollar cyber industry to youth ages 10 years old and older. The Idea came when Rafik attended a youth summit hosted by City Councilman Dwaine Caraway and the City of Dallas.
"Most kids just play the video games and the parents become concerned about the hours being spent playing them. The Cyber Gaming industry's gross revenue is greater than the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball combined," stated Rafik "LoSt-CaUze” Bryant. “Because of my efforts and support from my parents I am now making a living and endorsing my own products which I believe in. This makes money and my game much better. Now I want to introduce to our youth the opportunities in gaming."
"Tech Camp" is an after school and weekend program where students are introduced to the technical world of the games they play. As ambassadors for the Campaign, Rafik "LoSt-CaUze" Bryant and his team members will visit youth events, schools, universities, recreation centers, and Boys and Girls Clubs to seek hosting locations for the camp.
Casey Thomas, President of the Dallas Branch NAACP presented the idea of partnering with Team “LoSt-CaUze” at the general membership meeting. The members voted unanimously for the partnership because of the unique opportunity it offers in educating youth to other areas through the gaming industry, as opposed to just playing the games.
The Tech Camp curriculum includes Geography; learning new countries and cities where professional gamers travel to compete; the front end and back end of a computer - how they operate in relation to different video game equipment, along with the regiment needed to practice and compete.
