LINCOLN, NEB. – Three theatre students from McKinney High School have been selected to be part of the International Thespian Convention (ITC) production of Hairspray. Two of the students, seniors Rebecca Sheehand and Kendal Tolle, will work as crew members on the production, and the third student, junior Olivia Cope will fill the cast in the role of the ‘Nicest Kid Brenda’.
All three originally participated in the 2007 callback auditions for the stage production of Hairspray which will be performed during the June 2008 ITC convention. The students will travel to Colorado in March, May and June of 2008 for rehearsals and to participate in the presentation of the play in June at the ITC national convention.
More than 300 students from across the nation participated in the audition process and only 48 were selected for the company – 37 cast and 11 crew members. McKinney High School is only one of two schools across the country to have three students chosen for the production. A total of five students from the State of Texas, three of them from McKinney High School, were selected as part of the cast and crew of the international production.
McKinney High School junior Anna Bryant also auditioned for an acting role in the play.
This is the second year in a row McKinney High School has been represented in a national cast at the International Thespian Convention. In 2006, Tyler Jones served as a cast member in the production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.
