Dallas City Council shuts down two Deep Ellum bars
As Michael Davis talked about in his column, over a dozen Deep Ellum bar owners went before the Dallas City Council Wednesday evening to make a case to receive Specific Use Permits.
Two clubs -- Club One and Club Uropa -- were denied permits and will have to close down. Both clubs had been under fire for being detrimental to the community.
Dallas photographer Scott Dorn, whose photo is currently gracing the Pegasus News homepage (thanks, Scott!), has a number of images of Deep Ellum and Dallas sites in peril on his Flickr page.
Check out the video below for the indignant -- indignant! -- reactions of various City Council members to pictures of naked women allegedly taken inside Club Uropa.

Thank the lord they're shutting down Uropa.
They have been a blight on our Deep Ellum community for far too long.
Mike, people on your site might want to know that if they visit Uropa's website, you must be 18+ to view the photos...

Yeah I think Uropa was a no brainer.
I hate to see Club One get denied but what can you do in the face of such damning evidence? The crime reports were just too telling, assault after assault, gun fire, stabbings, macings, it's pretty indefensible. I really hope Shelly and her husband find a way to turn it around 'cause they're great people and really love Deep Ellum. Byron was pretty much on the verge of tears when speaking in front of the counsil.

Okay, I just watched this, not one damn word about the clubs that remain open. I'm so freaking tired of half of the story being told. Where's the clip of Amanda talking about children singing, or Chelsea talking about international bands playing. That is freaking deep ellum!
rant over.

I hear ya, Bill.
It is so frustrating that the news will always gloss over the goodness of our community so they can get straight to the meaty, sensational stuff...

On the Uropa site (thanks for the warning AN): I heard on KRLD this morning that the owners claim that the site was hacked and they didn't put the adult photos up???

hacked? right. so someone hacks their site and puts up nude pics from their events in the pics portion of their site? Did they also hack in the "you must be >18 to enter this site" page?
I surprised how dishonest the owner is being.

I am certainly glad Uropa is gone. I used to go to Club One a long, long time ago. Apparently it has turned really bad since then. We can hope that this will eventually be for the best.

Amanda Newman, says:
Mike,
hacked...I think not. Unless it was hacked by someone who attended events at Uropa, snapped pics at Uropa, posted them, and set up an age verification page to access said photos...
Again, I'm thrilled they are gone!
What most of the news outlets failed to mention was that Rasansky called the City Attorney up to the podium, who deemed they should be operating as a Sexually Oriented Business...he then motioned to have proceedings starting to shut them down ASAP.

As I live right down the street from Club One, ive witnessed alot of this "alleged" BS. There has been fights, property damage and garbage in the lots near the property. While I appluade them for hiring after-hours security, it did nothing to keep the thugs away. Hopefully cutting this cancer, along with uropa, will begin the proper healing process.
In addition, Im glad we had the SUPs approved for Elm/Darkside, Doublewide and DaDa, these places are what I consider the heart and soul of the neighborhood. I would rather see places like this open down here in replacement of the other two dumps that got shut down

I woke up one night after hearing people screaming outside which sounded like a serious fight between a man and a woman.
I called the police because I thought someone might be getting attacked or something.
Went and looked out my window-- there is a Cadillac pulled halfway into the street blocking two lanes.
And a woman with her shirt off and a skirt nearly around her waist screaming at some guy in a 'white t' in the middle of the street.
The cops never came.
That was just one night of the many weekends the people leaving Club One were loud, out of control, and completely obnoxiously rude.
