Weekend Concert Roundup: Dec. 14 & 15
Where for art thou weekend live music choices?
Friday
Alt-Country / Country / Americana - Chris Miller - Chris Miller will be releasing his CD at Poor David's, literally, as a copy of the CD is free with admission.
Alternative / Indie / Rock - Modest Mouse / Jimmy Eat World / Silverchair / Coheed & Cambria / Silversun Pickups / The Vanished - Beware, the Edge is trying to steal Christmas and they've got Modest Mouse on their side.
Bluegrass - South Austin Jug Band - A jug band? This could mean so many different things...
Blues / Jazz / Jam - Snarky Puppy / Backside Pick / Grimy Styles - Snarky Puppy is, in fact, quite snarky. Grimy Styles are, however, surprisingly clean. Backside pick? You can figure that out for yourself if you go to the show.
Cover and Tribute - Swan Song - A Tribute to Led Zeppelin / The Allmost Brothers / The Axis - In honor of the Led Zeppelin reunion, one of the few bands in Dallas who can actually spell "Zeppelin" will be celebrating with other local cover/tribute bands.
Punk / Rockabilly - Nekromantix / The Koffin Kats / The Chop Tops - Oh, "mantix." Yeesh, I misread that.
Saturday
Alt-Country / Country / Americana - Marcia Ball / Maren Morris - I don't have anything intelligent to say here (of course one could argue that nothing so far has been remotely intelligent either). See this show. Maren is on the way up.
Alternative / Indie / Rock - Avenged Sevenfold / Toadies / HellYeah / Flyleaf / Seether / Puddle of Mudd / Madina Lake / Miser - The second night, and slightly less wussy version, of How the Edge Stole Christmas show.
Cover and Tribute - Poo Live Crew - Any band with "poo" in the name... you're feelin' me.
Folk / Jazz - Kristy Kruger - The local favorite will be bringing in holiday cheer at Allgood Cafe on Saturday.
Metal / Industrial / Gothic - LaME / Crashsight / Razorblade Dolls / Industry 6 / Siva - Razorblade Dolls sound dangerous... were they made in China?
Pop - Kris Roe (of The Ataris) / Gazelles / Less is More - While it's exciting to see Kris Roe of the Ataris in town, it only brings back horrid memories of my parents never buying me an Atari.
Punk / Ska / Reggae - Darth Vato - Darth Vato have recently lost one of their beloved members... The Grampus. Of course, the van's engine was hardly cold before they replaced it with another. Heartless bastards.
