Dallas students offer healthy recipes in contest for school menus

Email Print Tell us your story Comment

Students in the Dallas Independent School District competed in a contest on Saturday morning to create a healthy recipe that might get on their schools' menu. The recipes must have one third of the dietary allowance of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, and blah blah blah, and the winner gets a $150 gift card and a convection oven. Which, cool, whatever. The great thing about this NBC 5 story is that it says the contest will be judged by "some of Dallas' top chefs" and then lists Jasper's, N9NE (well, they say "Nine"), and Blue Goose. The other good thing is that the accompanying ad is for Pizza Hut's Double Deep pizza with one of those photos of oozing cheese and copy that reads: "DOUBLE the toppings, 50% more cheese, FOLDED CRUST to hold it all". Way to go, NBC 5!

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
