UPDATED: Equinox health club coming to Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood

It'll go in the space at the corner of Avondale and Oak Lawn Avenues vacated by Park Place Motorcars.

DALLAS — Equinox Fitness Clubs plans to open a facility in Oak Lawn, in the space that used to be Park Place Motorcars, at the corner of Avondale and Oak Lawn Avenues.

Equinox is a Manhattan-based health club chain with 24 branches in the New York area, plus locations in California, Florida, Chicago, and Virginia. The facility in Dallas will have up to 45,000 square feet, with a gym and a spa, plus 17,000 square feet of shopping space. It's set to open in early 2009.

With Los Angeles-based SportsClub/LA under construction at the new development at Park Lane and US 75, it looks like a cool showdown between two out-of-town prestige health club chains.

UPDATE: Publicist says the facility will open on Tuesday, February 3. (So does a spammy commenter.) Publicist also says a second Equinox is going into Preston Hollow in late fall. Maybe trying to woo Preston Hollow's newest resident?
