California-based See’s Candies kiosks back in Dallas-area malls for holidays

5

Maintaining an annual holiday tradition, See's Candies kiosks have re-opened in malls around the Dallas area, where they'll be selling boxed chocolates and other treats through December 26.

See's is headquartered in San Francisco, with kitchens in both Los Angeles and San Francisco delivering fresh chocolates and candies to over 200 See's shops in the West. The six kiosks in the Dallas area are among the more than 300 temporary outlets that See's opens across the country during the holidays, starting in the second week of November and shutting down the day after Christmas.

Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a good chocolate experience, with some preferring an unadorned slab of The Very Best and others content with a Hershey's kiss. My favorite is a box of chocolates (despite the annoying Forrest Gump connotation, and I also find the term "bon bons" irritating, as well) and in that arena, See's is one of, if not THE best. You can order their chocolates online (today, Tuesday, December 18, is the last official day for delivery by Christmas); but it's neat to have a kiosk close by, and they usually have baskets with some kind of free sample.

Black & white awning evokes the pristine black-and-white color scheme of See's regular year-round shops.

Kiosks are located at the following malls:

- Dallas Galleria

- Collin Creek Mall

- Town East Mall in Mesquite

- Stonebriar

- Vista Ridge in Lewisville

- Parks at Arlington

- North East Mall in Hurst

They're currently sold out of the unique "Christmas Eve" box, but there's a Texas delivery expected on Friday afternoon; meanwhile, they have 1- and 2-pound boxes of mixed nuts-and-chews, milk chocolates, truffles, holiday sampler, and across-the-board assorted, as well as chocolate and butterscotch lollipops, tins of toffee, chocolate-covered nut bars, and etcetera etcetera. A 1-pound box runs about $15 and is already gift-wrapped; it's a no-brainer.

Not available in Dallas, but I HIGHLY prefer Fannie May chocolates to anything from See's. Buy their Eggnog Creams online -- delish.
