SOUTHLAKE The first location of Mi Chula's Good Mexican, an upscale fast-casual Mexican concept, recently opened in a 4,000 sq-ft location at the growing Shops of Southlake.
Developed by the founders behind Uncle Julio's, Mi Chula's does traditional Mexican favorites with fresh seasonal produce, seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, chilies from New Mexico, and meat delivered each day ensuring every item from the New Mexican and El Paso-inspired menu is fresh and flavorful. All ingredients and sauces are prepped and prepared in-house daily (? prepped AND prepared? That's what the press release says.) and every dish is made-to-order in an open kitchen. Hot handmade flour tortillas are delivered tableside.
Signature dishes include Mi Chula's Fish Tacos, filled with lightly-crusted tilapia topped with shredded pickled cabbage and a spicy cream hatch chile sauce; Guisada, a tasty Mexican stew with chicken, onions, tomatoes, peppers and special spices; and mesquite-grilled asada steak. The Yucatan consists of slow apple wood-smoked ribs in an original honey apple barbeque sauce with choice of chicken or beef fajitas. House-made escabeche, pickled jalapenos, cabbage and carrots, is the perfect accompaniment for all of the grilled selections.
Vegetarian options include vegetable fajitas with grilled portabellas, roasted peppers, onions, zucchini and yellow squash served with fresh, handmade flour tortillas; and spinach and roasted vegetable quesadillas. Desserts include churros served with homemade strawberry sauce, and sopapillos. Signature margaritas include the frozen prickly pear and the Sauza Gold Rocks. The menu is displayed on four 42-inch LCD TV monitors. Chips and tomato salsa are complimentary.
"With Mi Chula's, we are able to bring together all of the things that are most important to us: family, good friends and good food," said Joey Shashy, president of Good Mexican Corporation, the parent company of Mi Chula's and one of the founders of Uncle Julio's. "Even our handmade tamales and barracho beans were inspired from my Aunt Mary's (Lucky Boy Hamburger Fame!) secret recipe."
Certain selections, some not listed on the menu, may be ordered Extra Good. Entrees, for example, get extra vegetables. Raspberry lemonade gets a shot of Sauza tequila.
Featuring 108 indoor seats and 40 seats on the soon-to-open outdoor patio, there's plenty of room for a quiet couple or large family. The interior's warm earth tones and natural materials - wooden ceiling beams and zebrawood chairs - complement the natural light pouring in from two windowed walls. Contemporary art completes an overall atmosphere that is both casual and chic. The southwestern style extends to the patio with a wooden arbor, offering al-fresco dining with a fresh Mexican flare.

My husband and I had a very refreshing experience with our dining at Mi Chula's. The new concept of fast-casual Mexican is very compatable with a fast paced lifestyle. Being able to seat yourself after ordering and paying for your food is very convenient. With this approach seating is on the first come first serve basis which makes the timing of eating out faster. This approach, plus the excellence of the food, makes it a great experience!! The personal attention of the owners and staff is a plus and we will definitely return for another excellent eating experience.
