Mountain lions in Allen? State wildlife officials think not.
Animal control officers with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department met with residents of Allen recently to discuss their (the residents') concerns about the numerous reports of a large feline presence in their fair city.
A TPW spokesperson basically told the roomful of crazed Allenites that they were probably mis-identifying the animal, but that - just in case they actually WERE to come face-to-face with a mountain lion - they should "stay calm and back away slowly." (Or words to that effect.)
No word on what the TPW folks think about the Sachse sightings.

I think the TPW spokesperson was confused. The best thing to do if you encounter a mountain lion is to raise your arms to look as big as you can, yell as loud as you can, and be sure NEVER to turn your back on it. Pepper spray is a good defense, too.
And then, once it is gone, find lots of toilet paper.

One drizzly, cool Sunday morning about 2 years ago we were driving east on Renner Road, about 1/2 mile from Central Expressway, when a very large cat sprung out from the greenbelt area and crossed Renner headed north. As near as we could determine, it was probably a cougar. There's still plenty of wildlife in the hinterlands. But don't tell TPW. We'd rather they NOT mess with Texas.
