In news that makes one wonder whether the Hollywood studio establishment might not have seriously miscalculated in their opposition to reimbursing writers for the web-delivered fruits of their labors, dozens of scribes currently out on strike are getting creative in a business way by working to put together their own online content delivery companies.

While thus far the percentage of writers seeking to start their own companies is small, any successes they experience in this regard could serve as major bargaining capital as negotiations to settle the strike continue.

FrontBurner notes that Lake Highlands High School graduate (and award-winning independent filmmaker) John Magary has been selected to participate in The Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab, running from Jan. 11-16. SAAA-lute!

Alexandra Davila of Rare Footage Films notes their recent participation in something called "X-Mas with the Bakery," whose product - an online Christmas calendar incorporating 24 seasonally offbeat videos - appears here. The Rare Footage short film entry is behind window #12: it's about a boss who fires an employee only to find himself sharing Christmas dinner with the ex-worker's family. See what you think. (Grinch-friendly? Check out The Ranting Gryphon's Christmas Rant, #3 on the calendar.)
