Avalanche of new Dunkin Donuts outlets in Dallas includes former Sheridan’s site
The predicted avalanche of 125 Dunkin Donuts stores coming to Dallas includes a store going into what was previously a Sheridan's Custard on Campbell Road.
It turns out that there's more than one Dunkin Donuts franchisee, with uneven results. The store on Coit Road in Plano may answer the phone with distracted "hello" and be reluctant to even admit it's a Dunkin Donuts.
But at the outlet off the Tollway in Plano, the phone gets answered with a chipper "Dunkin Donuts." That outlet was opened four months ago by a different franchisee who previously worked with KFC. Sibling branches are slated to open in March at Legacy and Independence in Plano, as well as McKinney, Allen, Frisco -- and at 6033 Campbell Road at Preston, previously home to a Sheridan's Custard. Great news, as that Sheridan's was giving the chain a bad name. According to an employee at the Frisco store, the Campbell Road store was in trouble with the home office for not following company formulas and for cheaping out on ingredients. I saw this in the almonds. At the Frisco branch, they use toasted almonds that are crunchy with a salty component. At the Campbell Road store, they used slivered raw almonds which turned gummy and stuck to one's teeth. Yuck.

"Dunks" is known for its coffee more than its donuts.
Has anyone tried their packaged coffee? I bought some at TArget and it's dang good. I like it more than Starbucks.

I would venture to guess that it is more a function of Dunkin Donuts WANTING to be known more for its coffee than its donuts. The margins are higher in coffee than it donuts, and coffee will bring people back day in day out. Donuts aren't really much of a commodity. They're attacking starbucks head on and given their in place food offerings I would imagine will put up a good fight...

I've figured it out now.
Dunkin Donuts is the real creator of the Atkins Diet. They threw this guy out there, and totally destroyed the fatty foods market. It just so happens their main competitor in the South, Krispy Kreme, took it below the belt. So now that Krispy Kreme is pulling out, Dunkin is moving in. Donut conspiracy at its finest :)

I can explain the allure at least from my perspective:
<img src="https://dunkindonuts.com/images/aboutus/products/indulgenticedlatte/banner_indulgenticedlatte.jpg"> Change that to the caramel version, and there were many of the calories I consumed in college. Then of course the pièce de résistance...

(Dunkin, still waitin' on that check...)

Oh god, it's like Boston (and Cambridge and Somerville and Brookline - even Southie).
Now don't get me wrong; Boston is one of my all-time favorite cities. I love it with all my heart and look forward to going back. But Jesus, all the DD's were driving me nuts! It was like a pink and orange flourescent-lit cancer spreading across the east coast. The coffee tasted like it was filtered through cardboard and the doughnuts we all too lardy. Let's hope these Texas installments do a better job.

No matter what the thoughts, business wise DD's is putting a kink into the Starbucks business nationwide. It will be interesting when we start hearing about "the coffee wars" they way you used to with Colas and Fast Food. My preference is Dunn Bros. Coffee - They have a good number of locations around the city and they roast the coffee onsite. Most have free internet as well, something I have always hated about Starbucks - worst net connection sites ever!
