Friday
Alt-Country / Country / Americana - Orphanage Charity Show with Pleasant Grove / Baboon / The Greater Good - A little bit of alt-country, and little bit of charity. Throw in some rock for good measure and there you go.
Alt-Indie / Pop / Rock - Trip Adams / Paint - We were told Trip Adams disbanded back in March, but it looks like the creation of Paint has given lead singer Jeremiah Current an excuse to raise Trip from the dead. Hopefully more information on this is coming shortly.
Basically horns (a catchall for jazz, blues, polka, etc.) - Shibboleth / Bubba Hernandez y Los Super Vatos / Clay Pendergrass & the Electric Cowboys - While Shibboleth and Clay Pendergrass aren't known for their polka, Bubba Hernandez is (which explains the Grammy nomination). With Hernandez and his Super Vatos in the house, it seems everyone might be trying different stuff out, jazz, blues, who knows.
Holiday - Navidad Latinoamericana - The holidays, Latin American and Spanish style. The first person who yells, "Play Feliz Navidad!" gets a punch in the face.
Metal / Gothic / Industrial - In The Arms Of War / Embrace The Embers / Mourning Fury - The grungy, dingy atmosphere at Andy's Basement Bar is the perfect setting for this showcase of local metal groups. Need further explanation of the sound that will be present during this show, consult ITAOW's website where they explain that their sound is like, "Giving birth to a rabid manatee that has been locked up inside the womb as a punishment for a life of sin, then freed to destroy humanity for everything its done," etc. What's with the manatee references in this area?
Punk - Discord / C420 / Blarney Street Hooligans- Any opportunity you get to check out the Blarney Street Hooligans you should take it. Unfortunately, Responsible Johnny, who was on the lineup had to cancel due to vocalist Rob's upcoming surgery.
Saturday
Alt-Country / Country / Americana - Travis Mitchell Band - A feel good country band with less of that silly, radio appeal. Check out a recent interview with Travis, as well as a live review.
Alt-Indie / Pop / Rock - Sleeperstar / Sounds Under Radio / The Campaign / The Burning Hotels - One of the best pop-infused local lineups to hit Dallas in sometime. The Burning Hotels have been lauded by FW Weekly for some time now. Dallas will get their shot to see what all the hype is about.
Blues - Elvis T. Busboy - Elvis is back in the building. The local blues kind, not the rhinestoned, impersonator kind.
Holiday - Dallas Symphony Orchestra - Joy! A Christmas Celebration - One of your last chances to catch Christmas music before the actual day comes and you can resume your normal, jingle bell-less life of misery.
Jazz - Ricki Derek - Derek recently opened the Jazz Scat Lounge, which some of our users seem to think is a funny name. See the man who brought more jazz to Fort Worth in his very own club. Here's some video to appease the curious via Kristin Campbell at the S-T.
Metal / Gothic / Industrial - Texas Metal Alliance / Cauldron / Violent Intentions / Creophagy - growl?
Punk - American Werewolf Academy / Sunward / Bridges and Blinking Lights - An altogether pop-ier punk than Friday's choice, but stands to be a great show nonetheless. Check out PegNews' interview with the American Werewolf Academy here.
Rap / Hip-Hop / R&B / Reggae - Handclaps and Harmonies / Fab Deuce - Handclaps and Harmonies is not rap/hip-hop. Fab Deuce is. With limited choices in this genre this weekend, one out two ain't bad. Prefer reggae? Check out Pablo and the Hemphill Seven at Broncos Sports Bar and Grill.
