Dallas looking at cracking down on garage sales
You're not supposed to have more than two a year.
DALLAS Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia and Dallas' Code Compliance office are considering a change in the city's garage-sale ordinance that would require residents to register with the city before each sale.
You're allowed to have two garage sales every year, up to three days in a row. But Garcia says that some people have them all the time, and are selling new stuff, moving it into the category of "resale", not garage sale. They're also talking about increasing fines to up to $1,000 per violation. Code Compliance responds to at least 1,300 garage sale violations a year, although that can also be minor issues such as improperly placed signs.
Interesting factoids:
- You're only supposed to have a sign in your own yard
- You can't have a garage sale if you live in an apartment
- The largest number of violations are near West Illinois Avenue and Loop 12 in Oak Cliff, and near Bachman Lake
- Clothes, especially children's, sell best
It goes without saying that the garage sales listed here at Pegasus News are all perfectly kosher. We do NOT encourage breaking the law.

Because we all know that the biggest problem we have in Dallas are these garage sales. No problem with theft, drugs, or violence at all... so we can concentrate on these important issues.

To be fair, scoping out garage sale hotspots is basically trying to catch thieves - the resale merchandise spoken of certainly wasn't acquired in an honest fashion in most cases.

Oh well Dallas… I guess you are determined to make everyone hate the City of Dallas…I am ashamed to tell anyone that I was born there. It really doesn’t matter who the mindless fool was that made up the garage sale rules,(Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia) all of you should have to go by them for reelection. What an assinine bunch of halfwits you all are for passing them…The worse economy since the great Depression and taking money from those who can least afford it…Gasoline at ridulious prices, poor folks trying to make ends meet, and some fool of a politician says put 1 sign in your yard…You should all be ashamed of yourselves, but obviously you were reared by heartless, greedy, carpetbaggers…These are the same people who you will be asking to put a sign in their yard for your reelection… they should tell you to kiss there AXX..

Dallas City Council..I guess you are determined to make everyone despise the City of Dallas…Thankfully I bailed out in the 80's. It really doesn’t matter who the mindless fool was that made up the garage sale rules that your citizens have had heaped on them. All of you should have to go by them for reelection. What an asinine bunch of halfwits you all are for passing ordinances that are obviously to beat down your less fortunate citizens. The worst economy since the Great Depression and taking money from those who can least afford it…Gasoline at ridiculous prices, poor folks trying to make ends meet, and some fool of a politician says put only 1 sign in your yard…Great way to advertise on your dead end street..You should all be ashamed of yourselves, but obviously you were reared by heartless, greedy, carpetbaggers…These are the same people who you will be asking to put a sign in their yard for your reelection… they should charge you a $15.00 fee for having to look at it for three days...Or tell you to kiss their AXX.. \

Parity for Politicians and Garage Sales.... Only 1 Political sign in the front yard of any Politicians home who is running for any office, a small $15.00 permit fee, for only 3 days, twice a year...Parity, because it the right thing to do.... Because we all know that Polititions really are the biggest problems in Dallas..

THANKS AGAIN DALLAS CITY COUNCIL, ".Areas with the highest income inequality "tend to be found in cities, with older housing on average, while the most income-segregated areas ... tend to be found in the suburbs," the census reported". Rounding out the list of 10 big cities with the largest gaps between high and low income are Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Gainesville, all in Florida; Athens, Ga.; New York; "Dallas"; and Baton Rouge, La. Garage sales are usually held by the poorest of your citizens, they really are hard work.. Something most of the council are not familiar with....
