DPD’s self-regulatory abilities questioned by results of ticket-writing probe

Email Print Tell us your story Comment

This DMN investigative piece details the investigations - both internal and external (by the media) - that have been carried out to look into the improper ticket-writing activities engaged in by three Dallas Police Department officers.

Bottom line: no police agency (including the DPD) can be particularly adept at policing themselves, in part because cops everywhere (including those in the DPD) have a deep and abiding distrust of their internal affairs divisions.

The story offers no strategic solutions to the problem, but reading between the lines it seems that an investigative free press might be one such solution.
