And yet another reason to not feel proud to be a Texan: Apparently, Texas leads the nation in police officer deaths with 22, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which tracks the number of police deaths every year. Three North Texas police officers were killed in 2007: Dallas Senior Cpl. Mark Nix was shot during a traffic stop; Irving Officer Andrew Esparza died in an on-duty single-car accident; and Plano Officer Dayle Weston "Wes" Hardy died in an on-duty motorcycle accident.
