Callers’ attempts to oppose beer sales at Six Flags prove futile

Nearly 500 callers have complained to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission about Six Flags' intention to sell alcohol on site. However, opposition to a site gaining an alcohol license has to be in writing, so better luck next time. My favorite quote from the S-T story on this is when Sgt. Charlie Cloud of TABC's enforcement division explains that they are "not conducting an opinion poll." That Charlie's got moxy.

The TABC will host a public information meeting next Thursday, January 3, at the Texas Department of Transportation Regional Training Center (2501 S.W. Loop 820 in Fort Worth) at 7:30 p.m. When you are at this meeting, calling the TABC from your cell phone will still not be an appropriate means of protest, but you'll learn that there.

Drinking and rollercoasters sound like the kind of things you only combine once.

But I'm all for it!

Chris Kidd, says:

Southern Baptists and soccer moms have too much to complain about in this day and age, if it isnt the e-viles of dancing, cards and/or playing violent video games, its something else. The park should be allowed to make a business decision that will make them money, other theme parks (Disney, Universal, Cedar Fair, ect..) sale beer, wine and spirits on their property, why not SFoT?

UPDATE: TABC liaison Chanel Smith-Wesson will co-host an informal ‘keg party’ with former Baptist exotic dancer Jewel Swan to “demonstrate how alcohol consumption can enhance the Six Flags sensory experience.” Details were not available at press time.

Cars driven by drunks in large parking lot + kiddos running around on a sugar high = dead kids.

It'll happen. Just a matter of time.

Regarding: "Cars driven by drunks in large parking lot + kiddos running around on a sugar high = dead kids."

Actually, cars driven by ANYONE in large parking lot + kiddos running around on a sugar high = dead kids. It happens.

Let Six Flags sell beer. It'll probably be so insanely overpriced, any self-respecting drunk will stay at the bar where they can get more booze for their buck.

Pavel Lishin, says:

It's not like anyone thinks that drunks are going to flock to Six Flags just because they sell beer. I think people are more concerned with Dad Average, who just needs a beer or two to deal with the kids because damnit, why won't they just shut up NO WE CAN'T GO ON THE LOG RIDE AGAIN, YOU'VE ALREADY GONE THREE TIMES, QUIET DOWN OR WE'RE ALL GOING HOME OH GOD HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR BROTHER i need another drink
