Chicago Tribune does inane story on Dallas stereotypes

The fact that Dallas got one of three city-themed windows on Good Morning America (this was like a month ago, FYI) provoked the Chicago Tribune to stir from its stupor long enough to offer a reverie on our so-called "love-hate relationship with the TV show Dallas" and other stereotypes. Which the story drags out, sing along with me:

 • big hair
 • cowboys
 • JFK
 • J.R. Ewing. ("J.R. Ewing still casts a giant shadow over Dallas," it says.).

It also quotes someone from Southfork Ranch.

Did you know that "There's nary a cowboy to be found among the sleek new skyscrapers, funky lofts, airy museums and ritzy shopping malls that have sprouted here in the last decade."? Nary a cowboy to be found! Wow. Thanks for the recap, dude. How about a story on what "Windy City" means, or maybe an ode to deep-dish pizza? Jeez.

Maybe I'll take off my spurs if I venture out to the other 49 states.

Rawlins Gilliland, says:

As Dallas native, I'm outraged. Here, in rebuttal is Rawlins' list:

~~~ Silicone breast implants
~~~ Teeth bleached whiter than Imperial Pure Cane Sugar.

~~~ Hair bleached to match the sands of a Hawaiian beach. (It's how we commune with nature!)
~~~ Trophy wives that look like yesterday's call girl but wearing a honker ring.

~~~ A fake arrest DPD ticket (made of chocolate to add whimsy.)
Jeez
Lisa Lawrence Merritt, says:
Rawlins: "yesterday's call girl"? More than likely a former stripper from The Men's Club or The Lodge.
Btw, there was a mullet sighting at the W during Texas-OU weekend. Of course, It probably came from across the Red River, but still.....
Pavel Lishin, says:
Didn't know so many people came to gawk at the South Fork Ranch. I drive by it half the time when I go out to my parents' house.
Scott Doyle, says:
Yeah, certainly never looks like there are over 800 people there daily.
And I didn't realize Wylie is considered a Dallas suburb.
