Washington Redskins 27, Dallas Cowboys 6

Dire warning for the playoffs, or meaningless season finale?

Dire warning for the playoffs, or meaningless season finale?

The Dallas Cowboys came out with their least inspired performance of the year Sunday afternoon, with their starters lethargic and their backups unmotivated en route to a 27-6 loss in Washington. The Redskins were playing desperate football, needing a win to clinch the final wildcard playoff berth at 8-8.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, had nothing to play for and it showed. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had a terrible performance, going 7 for 16 for 86 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. His backup, Brad Johnson, hardly fared any better, going 7 for 11 for 79 yards.

The Dallas rushing attack was non-existent, as the Cowboys ran just 16 times for an astonishing 1 yard. They were dominated by an offense led by Todd Collins, and it is not clear whether this game should be a warning for a potential playoff upset --a la the Mavericks' pathetic effort against Golden State in May that eventually cost them titanic embarassment-- or just a meaningless season finale with no impact on the playoffs whatsoever.
