Hurst resident’s book fosters vocabulary growth

Josh Burk: author, clandestine educator
Josh Burk: author, clandestine educator

Hurst author Josh Burk graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a B.A. in Mass Communications and Spanish. He recently self-published a book called The Summer of Saint Nick, described as a "novella for young teens." Burk's book has a not-so-hidden agenda: vocabulary enhancement.

Josh scored a 1540 (out of 1600) on his SATs. He's quite proud of his verbal skills and thought up this gimmick to capitalize on them: he uses a bunch of high-dollar words in the novella, bold-faces them and defines them at the bottom of the page where they appear. Clever idea; Burk is hoping to find a book distributor that agrees to the extent that they're willing to circulate his opus in a bigger way (he currently sells it on the VocabCafé website).
