At this point I'm so sick of and jaded by stories of live music venues closing their doors. Ugh, so go ahead and add the Dallas Hard Rock Cafe to the list. The venue will be closing down March 4, and while this loss isn't nearly as painful as some of the others recently, it's rarely good for the music scene to lose another stage.
Here's some more detail if closing venues are your thing.

Does this mean the Observer is going to run an article about how McKinney Ave. is going to hell in a handbasket?

Makes me nostalgic for my junior high days when a fave spot was McKinney Avenue...anyone remember when the current site of the Uptown Gold's Gym was the Esprit store? Although the Hard Rock concept has had it's day, the space is really great and I hope someone opts to do something cool with it rather than tear it down to build a Pei Wei.

Am i hearing right by other sources that a sparkling new CVS PHARMACY will soon grace the former Hard Rock location?

My understanding is that this entire block has been "flagged," I think by Preservation Dallas. That means that the City must notify Preservation Dallas if anyone files for a demo permit. I'm not sure if they can stop it, but they can make it pretty difficult.

From what I've been told by workers at the cafe the building is under no kind of protection and is to be knocked down and made into a parking lot. I donno how true that is but thats what I've been told. But this does suck, my family just moved here a year ago and to me the music scene is one of the few things that adds some life to this city. And for all of you saying this is a good thing and you think its over priced and whatever else, you should look at it as a historic building being demolished and one less place to draw in tourists adding money to your economy. Also fyi there is talk of opening a hard rock hotel, live, and cafe in another part of town sometime in the next 2 years. Nothing is final but I'm praying it happens so all that awesome memerobila can stay where it belongs in Dallas.
