DALLAS When it's just one slightly quirky ad for a night club for sale!, you might think, "Oh. That's an oddity." (The nightclub for sale: Club Envy, which went kaput in late '06, and whose owner is taking a "whatever works" approach to unloading it.)
But then, when the space that once housed venerable rock institution Trees shows up for rent ("suitable for retail, offices, gallery, lofts, restaurant, pub or other related use"), it begins to seem like more than a coincidence.
And when four more properties on Elm Street show up in short order, including the former Momo's restaurant space and the site of Gypsy Tea Room ("Call now and the $35 application fee WILL BE WAIVED!"), you don't have have to get hit on the head with a hammer to recognize an avalanche of a trend.
Property owner Richard Cass says he's "gotten some calls." Trees landlord Morton Rachofsky has received some response, but says "the building is still available."

If I were rich, I'd rent every one of those properties, then burn them to the ground.

That's a retarded statement, Pavel. Are you a "special needs" child? Why would someone buy these properties (seriously), maybe someone will put another church there. That will definitely turn the area around! We all know that Tattoo Shops = more murderous prostituting drugee loiterers. Maybe Borders is interested, there aren't enough of those in the Universe.

It's a real shame what is happening there.
Listen to Robert Wilonsky's take on it from CBS11 last week. Prescient, indeed!
