Women’s basketball - TCU 86, Air Force 48
Five players scored in double figures and TCU shot 51.7 percent from the field as the Lady Frogs topped Air Force, 86-48 on Saturday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
TCU (18-7, 8-3 Mountain West Conference) led 40-28 at the break and quickly increased the margin in the second half by scoring the first six points and outscoring the Falcons (4-18, 0-11 MWC) 23-11 through the first 10 minutes to take a 63-38 lead.
"We've played pretty well here," head coach Jeff Mittie said. "I wouldn't say that today was one of our great performances, but we shot it well again and did some good things in there. When we showed some discipline and focus, we were pretty good."
Defensively, TCU held its fifth opponent to under 50 points and forced a season-high 29 turnovers en route to winning its 18th straight home game and moving to 13-0 at home this season.
The Lady Frogs shot 58.6 percent in the second half and were led by Ashley Davis, who scored a game-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Davis scored 11 of her 14 points in the first half.
Also reaching double figures was Lorie Butler-Rayford and Adrianne Ross, who totaled 13 points apiece. Hanna Biernacka added 11 points, while Danielle Nunn had 10 points. Jenna Lohse led TCU in rebounding by matching a career high with eight boards.
With the 38-point victory, TCU improved its average margin of victory over conference opponents at home to 32.6 points. In all 13 home games, the Lady Frogs are winning by an average of 21.38 points.
Air Force shot 34.1 percent from the field and was led by Alecia Steele, who totaled 12 points.
TCU has now won eight straight over Air Force and is a perfect 13-0 when leading at the half this season.
TCU will return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 18 after eight days off to face Utah at 2 p.m. at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
