Filing for May elections underway
Decision DFW 2007
No matter what town you live in, Pegasus News is your election headquarters. You can already get the scoop on all the incumbents in our existing political database. And, as soon as the filing date has passed, we're going to be providing an interactive database of every candidate in every local race in our coverage area.
We're planning a lot more in the way of campaign coverage, but we don't want to give away all our tricks, as we've noticed a bit of copycatting around here in the past couple of months. If you're running for office and want more scoop, drop us a line.
Though Saturday was the official first day to file for May 12 elections, Monday will be the first day most cities and school districts will begin taking applications.
Though the Dallas mayoral election and open seats on the Dallas City Council will be the most visible campaigns, there'll be noteworthy ballot action throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including school board seats and mayoral elections in Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Garland, and Rowlett.
Other controversial measures include the vote in Farmers Branch to prevent illegal immigrants from renting apartments, and the vote in University Park to decide whether Southern Methodist University can buy Potomac Park, land owned by the city that might be needed for the library.
Here are the pertinent dates for all jurisdictions:
March 13: First day for voters to apply for a ballot by mail
April 12: Last day to register to vote
April 30: First day of early voting
May 4: Last day to apply for ballot by mail
May 8: Last day of early voting
May 12: Election day
June 16: Runoff elections (if needed)
