Cheerleading fuss at Carroll Senior High drags on

1

No, seriously, it gets worse

Before the McKinney North High School cheerscandal shook our senses, there was the Southlake Carroll debacle. Not to be outdone, this issue at Carroll Senior High School is back in the news as criminal charges and lawsuits enter the fray. Here's a rundown of how the parents have now ramped up the insanity:

  • Assault between two fathers at a football game two months ago, Irving police are investigating.
  • A second altercation involving two cheerleaders' mothers and another father at the same game. Women claimed that the father intimidated them and made them feel unsafe.
  • A defamation lawsuit from that father against the two mothers for conspiring to defame him by sending e-mails to the school district. He's seeking $500,000 in damages.
  • "Somebody is writing nasty things about my kid on the bathroom stalls!"
  • Claims abound that the cheerleading coach and sponsor are unfairly and unevenly handing out demerits.
  • "She wore a white bathing suit but I wanted to wear a white bathing suit..."

All this because of a flawed cheerleader tryout. Get a grip. How on earth are our kids supposed to mature into rational adults when their parents act like petty children at the smallest issue?

It is ashamed that this mess is going on. It gives cheerleading a bad name. It's only the few that mess it up for all other cheerleaders.

My daughter is a high school cheerleader and also a competative cheerleader. They really work hard.

Too bad the tryouts were messed up. I would hope Southlake Carroll doesn't hire the same judges this year.
