Chris Hansen, perv hunter
In November 2006, the crafty, undercover Dateline people swooped down on Murphy to bust some sex fiends. The first part of the show aired Tuesday, Feb. 13 - here is the transcript if you missed it.
Some concerned folk back then were upset with Dateline, saying the show and the group Perverted Justice lured pervs to town unnecessarily by setting up a house full of strategically placed cameras and trying to nail them, so to speak.
At a Murphy City Council meeting after the Dateline investigation was finished, residents were told that the city was looking out for their best interests. Dateline reported that after the meeting "some (residents) were still opposed but the vast majority voiced their support."
Below is a portion of a chat mentioned in Tuesday's broadcast, from one guy they tried to lure:
dallasbadboy2002: there are too many guys getting busted on those shows for being baited by hot young girls lol
dallasbadboy2002: so im being good ha ha
HAHAHAHA! Yeah, he didn't stay good for long because the cops arrested him about 10 minutes later.
Reports Chris Hansen in the story:
Angry neighbors discover our operation and organize a demonstration outside our house, parading down the street.
If that isn’t enough to keep men away, it’s election time and potential predators could have easily seen the campaign ads running continuously for the lieutenant governor and Texas attorney general promising to crack down on Internet predators.
But despite all those warnings, potential predators keep showing up.
Indeed. No worries, the world is full of enough pervs to entertain America in prime time.
On a serious note, you may recall this story about the former Kaufman County District Attorney, Louis Conradt, committing suicide last year during this investigation. That part of the story airs next week in the second half of the Dateline sex fiend examination.

I removed songboy10's comment because it contained some serious allegations about some people in Washington State. As we can't substantiate those easily, and Washington is a bit off our beat to do the research, the comment was removed.
