McKinney HS student named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced that Abraham Benavides, a senior at McKinney High School, is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.
Benavides is one of 8,200 students across the country and only the second student in McKinney ISD in 2007 to be selected as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Melanie Miller, a senior at McKinney North High School was also named as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist this year.
More than 1.4 million students took the PSAT test in October of 2006. Only 50,000 were named top scorers based on their test scores. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation then selected 16,000 semi-finalists to compete for scholarships. The organization’s final scholarship winners will be announced in April, May and July of this year.
