Innocence Project of Texas aims to exonerate 354 convicts through DNA evidence

Owing to the large number of recent DNA-based exonerations in Dallas County, a partnership has been fostered between prosecutors and advocates for the wrongly-convicted.

Thus, the Innocence Project of Texas is pushing to consider implementing DNA testing in any/all of roughly 354 convictions for rape, murder and other felonies that go as far back as the '70s.

Nationwide, over 190 very lucky people have been found innocent through genetic testing since the first post-conviction DNA exoneration in 1989. Within the next week, a 13th exoneration in Dallas County is expected to be announced.

12th place goes to 50-year old Houston resident James Waller, who was accused in 1982 of raping a Dallas boy but who was ultimately vindicated last January.
