High school soccer player and her father arrested for assault
A player on the L.D. Bell High School soccer team and her father were charged with misdemeanors in connection with a tussle at the end of a game Feb. 9 against South Grand Prairie High School, says the FWST.
Grand Prairie police said that Brittney South, 17, punched a referee, while her father, Wendell South, 53, was charged with disorderly conduct.
A police report showed Brittney South receiving a red card violation, followed by ejection from the game. At the end of the game, she ran out of the stands and punched referee Javier Soliz in the side of the head. Soliz pressed charges against the girl.
While a police officer talked to Soliz and Brittney South, her father began yelling obscenities at Soliz. The officer tried to calm Wendell South, who pushed past the officer. He was taken into custody. That's when Brittney South lunged for the officer.
Larry Huey, president of the Tarrant soccer officials chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials, confirmed that an incident report was filed with the University Interscholastic League.
