Deep Ellum Cafe changes hands

Deep Ellum Cafe, the neighborhood institution that was resuscitated late last year by Deep Ellum vets Whit Meyers and chef Chris Pyun, was sold this week to a new set of owners who also own Club Dada a few doors down on Elm Street, as well as Lakewood Bar and Grill on Gaston Avenue.

Meyers and Pyun brought back the Cafe last October, after it had been closed for a number of years. In the interim, the location had been home to Standard (which moved to Uptown before closing last year) and, more recently, the ill-fated Tarantino's, which wasn't open a full year.

But Deep Ellum Cafe entity held nostalgic value for Deep Ellum old-timers who'd come of age there in the late '80s and early '90s -- including Meyers. He and Pyun brought over staffers from their downtown restaurant Jeroboam, which closed in September. Many are still there, including manager Jeremy Gaytan. Pyun, who's also a chef for Central Market, will continue to consult on the menu.

Saturday Tastings in the Wine and Beer Department Little Joey just LOVES the Saturday wine tastings at Central Market - he particularly likes the blind tastings, when he can sneak a snort while Mommie's not looking. (Great nose!) More info
