New Interview: The Big Red Rooster
Ah, the eternal question: How many really, really, ridiculously good-looking guys can you fit into one band? Strike that. How many really, really, ridiculously good-looking guys who actually know how to play their instruments can you fit into one band? Well, based on this interview, that answer is five, possibly with room for one more.
The Big Red Rooster have been around for a little while making a name for themselves primarily among the SMU crowd, but with lots of exposure coming up, I suspect there's a big break on the way for this talented, multi-genre group. BRR already has some big-time collaborations and partnerships forged, such as with Mr. Pookie & Mr. Lucci, as well as Play-N-Skillz. Additionally, they have a new album set to release in Fall 2007, a spot on a float in the Saint Patrick's Day parade on Greenville Avenue, and a deal to be the band behind the Dallas Desperados arena football team. So while the Chinese Zodiac claims this to be the year of the pig, as far as Dallas is concerned, 2007 is shaping up to be the year of The Big Red Rooster. (Cheesy? Sure. True? Hell yeah!)
Some of the craziness involved in this interview includes:
Upcoming shows:
- Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 10 p.m. at Public House
- Saturday, April 7, 2007, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Deep Ellum
- Saturday, April 7, 2007, 10 p.m. at Curtain Club
- The band name's origin, which involves some BS about a farm, and how the guys found each other
- The album due to release in Fall 2007
- How they classify their live-music, hip-hop sound
- Working with Mr. Pookie & Mr. Lucci and thoughts on Dallas' music scene
- Room for one more?
- Upcoming projects and shows
- Fun with band stereotypes (by far, some of the funniest responses I've ever gotten)
