The criminal investigation into the shooting will be handled by Dallas Police.
At 2 a.m. an Arlington Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a possible DWI suspect. The truck was observed in the 2500 block of E. Arkansas Lane. The truck failed to stop and the officer initiated a traffic pursuit. The majority of the pursuit was on highways in Arlington, Grand Prairie and Dallas.
At 2:20 a.m. at the intersection of Westmoreland and Singleton in Dallas, the suspect struck a telephone pole. The officers tried to take the suspect into custody but he continued to move the truck away from the pole. Officers broke out the driver and passenger windows in an attempt to arrest the suspect who was not complying with the officer's verbal commands. The officer on the passenger side saw a teenage female in the passenger seat and pulled her out of the truck. The suspect driver continued moving the truck and backed into the police unit behind his truck. The truck struck the officer standing on the drivers side but did not knock him down. The officer on the passenger side fired several shots at the suspect driver. The suspect fled in the truck East on Westmoreland. The suspect abandoned the vehicle several blocks away and ran into the neighborhood.
At 2:25 a.m. Arlington Officers took the suspect into custody at Canada and Baker in Dallas. The suspect had been injured during the shooting at Westmoreland and Singleton. The suspect is a 27 year old male. The suspect was taken to Parkland Hospital for treatment. The 15 year old female was reported missing out of Arlington. There is no indication at this time that the 15 year old was with the suspect against her will.
The officer that was knocked back by the truck was sore but did not appear to be injured.
The suspect has two felony warrants for Possession of Controlled Substance out of Tarrant County.
The criminal investigation into the shooting will be handled by Dallas Police. Arlington Police will conduct an internal investigation into the pursuit and shooting.
