Blue Shoe Project’s Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen nominated for a Blues Music Award
Back in 2004, the Blue Shoe Project, brought together Robert Lockwood, Jr., Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, and Henry James Townsend for one historic night of blues music.
Back in 2004, the Blue Shoe Project, a local non-profit with "the mission of educating the coming generations on the importance of Blues and American roots music," brought together four of the country's top blues artists, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, and Henry James Townsend, for one night. The following is a short description of this historic performance from the Blue Shoe Project:
At the time they ranged in age from 89 to 94 and all had received the National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellowship Award, the highest honor in the USA for traditional arts. These musicians have devoted their entire life to playing the blues, and staging such an epic event was a rare opportunity. There was a time when Dallas was viewed as an epicenter for the blues and on October 16th, 2004, Dallas once again reclaimed its place as a blues capitol when the four remaining elders of the blues reunited on the stage of the historic Majestic Theater.
This performance was recorded to make the Blue Shoe Project's debut album, Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen - Live in Dallas, which is up for Best Traditional Blues Album in the Blues Music Awards. Also nominated in this category are Charlies Musselwhite for Delta Hardware, Nick Moss and the Flip Tops for Live at Chan's, Big George Brock for Round Two, and Water Slim and the Workers for their self-titled album.
The 28th Annual Blues Music Awards, sponsored by the Blues Foundation, will take place at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 10, 2007.
