UPDATED: Pizza Patron will accept payment in Mexican pesos
Trying to think of another store this far from a border that does this, and I can't. The DMN says that's because there probably isn't one.
UPDATE: A big AP article today indicates that the pesos promotion has been a huge success. It's been so popular that the pizza chain will continue to accept pesos indefinitely.

Brad Williamson, says:
I love how this "brilliant" string of publicity for Pizza Patron is only being reported on the net in English, and will probably never reach the Spanish speaking audience it was intended for. Ha!
<a href="http://www.smallbusinessbranding.com/647/us-pizza-franchise-accepts-payment-in-pesos-from-spanish-patrons/">So without further adieu, I bring even more commentary for you non-peso carrying Anglos on SmallBusinessBranding.com...</a>

Was it ever intended for Spanish speakers? Sounds like it might just be one of those "any kind of publicity" things.

Just a publicity stunt. Mexicans save their pesos for their trips home.

Will they take Euro's? If not, then they must be racist and prejudice! How about Yen? What's wrong with these people. Isn't EVERYONE equal, therefore anyone can do anything?

It is unfortunate ‘the All Mightily Dollar’ has taken presence over the principles and values of this country! Illegal entrance into this country has wounded the very core of our nation’s principles and value, all because of the ‘Almighty Dollar.’ We’ve broken our own laws to receive illegal immigration for the sake of the dollar. Illegal Aliens have invaded our land, breaking every law to reach the top of the ladder! It can not be tolerate any longer! Those here illegally demands rights which are only for Americans and deportation is also visible! A ‘Crackdown’ of illegal aliens in our country has begun. The source of this invasion is caused by business like your! Prosecutions of all business in this country are past due.
The country is falling apart because of this invasion which the dollar seekers can not see and refuse to do so. The economy is at the collapse stages and this country will pay for it dearly because of greed! Our boarder are broken, not only illegal aliens have crossed but terrorists as well and by the hundreds! It’s business like yours that is destroying our nation which is foreseeable and a President that has become a dictator rather than a president of the people!

I wonder how many of the illegal immigrants have a stronger command of the English language than those who are enraged by them?

How is this appealing to illegal immigrants? If they are working for U.S. employers they are most likely getting paid in U.S. dollars. Do you know of any U.S. companies that pay their workers in pesos?
It's easier for legal immigrants to travel back and fourth across the border and they are the ones more likely to have pesos.
Merchants should be free to accept whatever currency they want. Why are people getting so freaked out about it?

Honestly, I don't understand what the fuss is about, either.
Mike, if you want to start paying me in <a href="http://www.pandaamerica.com/details.asp?item=3328&grp=1&categ=11">these</a>, that'll be just fine, thanks.
('Course, I'll have to do all my pizza shopping at Pizza Patron...)
