Bagelstein’s raccoon-shaped toothpick dispenser crawls back home

Rocky is back: The raccoon-shaped toothpick holder belonging to Bagelstein’s in North Dallas -- whose heinous heist was captured on the restaurant's surveillance system -- was stealthily returned on Wednesday morning, suffering only minor injuries.

The actual return went unperceived; owners Bob and Melinda Davidson spotted the treasured toothpick holder at approximately 11 a.m. at Bagelstein's entrance, swaddled in a blue plastic bag.

"He'd been drenched in Lysol -- I guess [the thief] figured we were going to lift her prints," said Melinda. "He looks a little grayer, but I think that's because of the stress of his trip."

The Davidsons quickly initiated a celebration of the return of Rocky.

"Oh yeah, we've got streamers up and we gave Rocky a party hat," Melinda said.

Channel 5 ran a story with video last night on the 10 o'clock news... coincidentally, right after "Law and Order: SVU". Video available here: http://www.nbc5i.com/video/index.html

Perhaps the culprit felt the heat and decided to come clean!

"In the criminal justice system, crimes involving Raccoons are considered especially heinous..."

Rabid raccoon attacks woman on porch

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- An woman is undergoing rabies treatment after she was attacked on her porch by a rabid raccoon. Beverly Lanouette said the animal came up from behind Monday and latched onto her leg.

"It was a huge raccoon who meant business," she told WTNH-TV. "It was very angry and growling and wouldn't let go of my leg."

She said she beat the animal with a chair to get it off of her.

Gee, RobertB, I wonder where Channel 5 (and Channel 8 too) got the idea to do a story? And you don't need to go to their site to watch the video - we have it right here, from an article we ran several days ago, well before they stole the story from us: http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2007/...

"Rocky raves about Rome", "Rocky digs the Grand Canyon", etc.

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
