Mavericks foil best-laid plans of network entertainment programmers
Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Tues., Jan. 9)
Tuesday night's close win for Dallas against the Utah Jazz gave Ch. 21 another ratings windfall, particularly with advertiser-preferred younger viewers. The Mavs easily beat all competing programming among 18-to-34-year-olds and were narrowly beaten only by Fox's House in the 18-to-49-year-old demo. Overall, the game drew 176,120 homes, finishing second to House from 8 to 9 p.m. and tying CBS' People's Choice Awards and NBC's Law & Order combo in the 8 to 10 p.m. slot.
The local news derby saw NBC5 score commanding wins at 10 p.m. in total homes and among 25-to-54-year-olds, the key advertiser target for news programming.
At 6 a.m., Fox4 continued to pull out of a recent slump, winning in homes and tying NBC5 with 25-to-54-year-olds.
The Peacock won in homes at 6 p.m. and tied Belo8 for first in the 25-to-54 demo. Belo8 won in both measurements at 5 p.m.
Over on Uncle Barky's site, Ed is on Day 1 of his network press tour.
