Pizza Patron restaurants receiving death threats after Mexican peso announcement
Updated 11:56 p.m., January 13, 2007
The Dallas-based company is taking some heat, following their recent announcement that they would accept Mexican pesos. A spokesman for the Dallas-based chain said the company was not trying to inject itself in a larger political debate, just market itself more to Hispanic customers.
Pesos have been accepted in border towns in the Rio Grande Valley, such as Brownsville, for about a century.

Yea, and didn't anyone tell them that pizza is Italian food. This is America. If you want to serve food for illegal Italians, go to Italy!

Notice how no one is complaining about the northern states that accept Canadian currency. This is just straight up racism.

Yeah, growing up in NY I learned to accept the fact that I would at some point receive the random Canadian quarter as change. I see no difference here.

All the people who think that they're "catering to illegals" are kidding themselves. I doubt that Mexicans in the states are getting paid in pesos; if they made it over here, odds are they're getting paid in dollars, and spending them, too.
Except, of course, the illegal cooks at Pizza Patron, who can now buy pizza from their own store with the money that they were paid with that was theirs to begin with. Or something. What?

Once again, a shameless plug, for an article I wrote, concerning this story from the perspective of a marketer...

If you read the article written by the Dallas Morning News, Brad, you will see that Pizza Patron is providing this service to cater to the majority of their customers (60%) who happen to be of Mexican origin.
Yes, your article is a shameless plug... for the on-going anti-immigrant hysteria resucitated by the conservative right...that is.
P.S. Brad, Stick to writing about the market and leave out the political spin. It's getting old.

I love that idea so much, my business is gonna take pesos too! In Aurora, CO we get tons of visitors from Mexico and people that go back and forth constantly. Makes sense to me,and my business will only buy from there from now on! No more Pizza Hut just because of the corporate discount, I love this idea, and I love to do more for the Mexican community here!

Rolando,
I don't know what article you read, but it seems like we're actually on the same page towards this issue.
Have a good one buddy...

The media has done a good job making a bigger deal out of this than it really is. NBC 5 reported that this whole acceptance of pesos deal is just a month-long deal - nothing to get one's panties in a twist over...though, if it becomes permanent, there will be reason for much twisting of female undergarments.
