Dallas police aims for “intelligence-led policing”

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (2)

Lt. Todd Thomasson of the Dallas Police is working on a concept he calls "intelligence-led policing." He envisions a Metro Operations Support and Analytical Intelligence Center that will gather and analyze crime tips, and then quickly funnel those tips out of officers in the field. One of the centerpieces to Thomasson's plan will be using a $1.5 million grant from homeland security to purchase software and equipment that will allow him to search all police databases at once. Currently, there are about twenty-eight police databases that aren't linked up together. Thomasson's vision is based on a similar successful operation in New Jersey.
