Trees owner throws in the towel

Too much red tape by the City of Dallas.

Frontburner's got a sad-yet-comical post about the (again) demise of Trees. Basically, writes owner Kenny Brattain in a press release, this is the gist of it:

. . .THIS IS A WARNING TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO OPEN A ?LIVE MUSIC VENUE? IN DEEP ELLUM, THAT IS NOT A CHURCH. DON?T DO IT. THE CITY OF DALLAS WILL NOT LET YOU!!

I totally understand their frustration. But do they need to throw their anger towards the Ellum: Onstage complex?

I mean, ok, so its church-based. But they also don't sell alcohol, don't allow smoking, and they're the cleanest place in Deep Ellum.

THAT'S why they got a permit.

Gregory, says:

Oh, and after reading the article, Ellum: Onstage also has their own parking lot.

Alan Cohen, says:

Isn't that Kenny Brattain's point? You can't get the right permits for a venue unless you don't sell alchohol or allow smoking.

I think Ellum:Onstage is great for Deep Ellum. I also think that reopening Tree's even with the alchohol, smoking, and lack of parking would also be a positive for Deep Ellum.

That said, it might have been wise for him to leave the church reference out of his rant.

Lets hope they do not allow smoking, why should people be allowed to harm people around them. Come on, if you allow smoking why not allow people to carry around injections of deadly diseases and inject them into whom ever they like, its the same thing.
