Dallas reports fifth-highest foreclosure rate in the country

Fort Worth lags behind at #6.

— Texas reported 156,876 foreclosure filings for the year, the most of any state and nearly 13 percent of the national total. The state consistently reported big foreclosure numbers throughout 2006, documenting the highest monthly total eight times, and foreclosures for the year were up more than 14 percent from 2005. Texas's foreclosure total represented nearly 2 percent of the state's households - or one foreclosure filing for every 51 households - giving the state the nation's fourth highest state foreclosure rate.

For metro areas, Dallas's foreclosure rate was the fifth-highest in the country in 2006, with 51,730 foreclosures reported, or one out of every 26 households. Fort Worth/Arlington was ranked right behind Dallas at #6, with 3.7 percent of the metro area's households, or one foreclosure filing for every 27 households.

San Antonio came in at #12, Austin at #16. Detroit, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Denver were the only cities ranked higher than Dallas/Fort Worth in foreclosure filings for 2006.
