It looks like the end for the Gypsy Tea Room
Unfair Park reports that Gypsy Tea Room has ended its bankruptcy battle in the courts. As a result, it is expected that the venue will shut down sometime after March 31st.

I just got official word from the Director of Special Events for the GTR. Sadly, the reports are true.

If not for the hard-to-access bathrooms, the odd layout with the stage in the corner, the difficulty getting a drink at the understaffed bar, the noisy murmur from the back area clashing with the music, and the generally rude and disrespectful crowds, I might actually miss this place.

wow. i hope at the very least another venue steps up to fill the void this will leave in the dallas music scene. i have seen so many unbelievable shows there- shows that would not have been hosted in any other local venue.

WOW. i have seen so many shows at Gypsy that never came to any other venue. I do hope that someone sees this opportunity to establish a new venue for underground music.

Alan Cohen says:
With the House of Blues gearing up and Gilley's expanding into a major multi-genre venue, I actually think we'll have more touring acts come to town than have in past years.
If the HOB here ends up anything like the one in New Orleans, there will also be many opportunities for local acts to get some great exposure on a big stage.
Regardless of the practical impact, it'll be a very sad day when the Tea Room shuts down.

Man, I still remember this final Friday set with Pik where they did the first PPT show (at least I think it was the first) ... I think MoneyWaters did a set too but I can't remember.. The show where Tahiti did a set and dove off the stage and hit the floor, got up and kept rappin'. We had a damn ball that night.
