Spencer Stuart establishes endowed scholarship at University of Dallas
The University of Dallas (UD) today announced that Spencer Stuart, a leading global executive search firm, has endowed a scholarship fund in honor of their long-serving Partner O.D. “Dan” Cruse, incoming chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, and his wife, Margie Cruse.
“We made this gift in Margie and Dan’s honor to celebrate Dan’s 30 years with our firm and to recognize his exemplary service and commitment as a trustee for the University of Dallas,” said David Daniel, managing partner of Spencer Stuart.
Cruse is a “Distinguished Alumnus” of UD and has served as vice chairman of the Board since 2003. He is a member of the Board’s executive committee and immediate past chair of the Advancement committee. In 1982, he became the first alumnus to serve on the Board of Trustees. Cruse also served in a leadership role to develop the parish at UD and actively participated in fundraising campaigns to build the Church of the Incarnation on campus and the University’s campus in Rome. He has also chaired several annual fund campaigns.
“This is a fitting tribute because Dan has given tirelessly of his time and resources to support and advance our strategic goals, both as a trustee and as an alumnus,” noted Dr. Frank Lazarus, president of the University. “We are honored to establish a scholarship fund that will create a wonderful legacy for the Cruses and assist many students in the coming years.”
In his 30 years at Spencer Stuart, Cruse has played a major role in the firm’s governance. After spending many years on the firm’s worldwide and U.S. boards, as well as in the Dallas office, he was instrumental in developing the company’s partnership structure and chaired several board committees. Cruse established Spencer Stuart’s High Technology Practice (now known as Technology, Communications and Media). Currently, as a core member of the Board Services Practice, he focuses exclusively on board of director searches. He also continues to assist former clients with their senior-level recruiting needs by serving as an internal consultant.
Cruse began his career at Texas Instruments and later joined GE in the corporate development program, moving progressively into manufacturing, manufacturing engineering and human resources. He has held directorships with many public and private companies and organizations, including Spencer Stuart, Texas Commerce Bank in Las Colinas, Texas, Dallas Business Journal, Texas Association of Business, Accelerators, Inc., and Las Colinas Country Club.
