Recent rains have resulted in the filling of all three reservoirs that serve members and customers of the North Texas Municipal Water District, including the City of Rockwall and its wholesale water customers (the City of Heath, RCH Water Supply Corporation, and Blackland Water Supply Corporation). Further water consumption levels in the region due to rainfall levels and successful conservation efforts of water customers have ensured that the region will not likely exceed the water rights allocations for the region for 2007.
North Texas Municipal Water District, in a meeting held on Friday, July 06, 2007 has recommended that its members and customers may now move from the drought management programs currently in place to water conservation programs – the details of which will be established more fully in the coming weeks.
While formal City Council action to formally move to the conservation program cannot occur until the program is more fully developed, the City has administratively suspended enforcement efforts associated with the Drought Management Program.
Customers are encouraged to continue not watering between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm and to consider that most experts indicate that watering twice per week is typically sufficient to maintain a healthy lawn. Water customers are encouraged to voluntarily continue using water wisely as the details for the conservation program are developed for the region. Upon completion of the regionally recommended conservation program, the City of Rockwall will have an opportunity to consider local measures designed to ensure prudent water use. Once completed, the details of the program will be provided to Rockwall residents and customers.
The City of Rockwall sincerely appreciates the fact the Rockwall residents have made significant contributions to the successful Drought Management Program, which was a regional effort.
Rockwall’s City Manager Julie Couch said, “Conservation efforts in Rockwall and throughout this region will remain important to ensuring availability of water and to help ensure that water is made available to customers at a reasonable price. Rockwall customers responded admirably to the Drought Management Program, and I am certain that they will continue to use water wisely.”
However, as always, residents are advised NOT to water Gremlins.
