DART Green Line construction will make driving hellish around that area
Construction along Denton Drive underway in July.
Construction on DART's exciting Green Line expansion into Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch and Carrollton has begun in earnest and will enter in a new phase in July, which will continue until passenger service officially begins in December 2010. Some of the major streets in the neighborhood west of Love Field will be affected, especially around Denton Drive:
- In the downtown Dallas area, Houston St. between Harry Hines to Victory Ave. will be reduced to one lane southbound.
- In the Market Center area, Harry Hines Blvd. between Wycliff Ave. and Market Center Blvd. will be reduced to two lanes in each direction.
- In the Love Field/West area, there'll be periodic lane reduction on Denton Drive at Mockingbird Lane throughout the construction process.
- Gilford Avenue, Anson Road, and Burbank Street will be temporarily closed between Denton Drive and just west of Little Denton for reconstruction. This will include temporarily closing off access to these streets from Little Denton and Denton Drive. During the closures, which will last for approximately 4-6 months, traffic will be detoured along other streets to reach Denton Drive.
- Wyman Street at Denton Drive will be miserable for approximately 2-3 months, as traffic on Wyman is reduced to one lane in each direction just west of the railroad crossing; these lanes will shift as construction stages proceed.
- In Carrollton, traffic along North Broadway Street at Ismaili Center Circle will be shifted to the west to allow for the addition of temporary pavement along the right side of northbound North Broadway Street. This work will be followed by subsequent traffic shifts at this location for reconstruction of North Broadway Street and Ismaili Center Circle, which will require a temporary closure of Ismaili Center Circle at a later date. Construction in this area is anticipated to continue until Spring 2008.

All the new "spokes" will be nice, but if DART rail is ever going to be useful for people other than commuters, there's going to have to be a "circle" line or two, so riders can get, for example, from a "red line" station to a "green line" station without having to go downtown.

Matt, they can't have that ease of use. That would make it so that we wouldn't have to drive on the Tollway or George Bush to work anymore. The NTTA would send our their droid army if they weren't able to get all that toll money anymore.
