Irving Mayor Herbert Gears met with Mexican Consul Enrique Hubbard Urrea on Monday to address allegations that illegal immigrants have been treated unfairly during traffic stops. Mr. Hubbard contends that people were often stopped for no reason at all, and that excuses would be made after the fact to justify pulling the car over. Mr. Gears has said that Irving will pay closer attention to the allegations. Whatever that means.

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info

Funny that same thing happened to me more than once a week from the age of 16 until I turned about 26. It was profiling. But not racial.

I'll second that. When you get pulled over after being followed for 3 miles from a friend's neighborhood because "the light above your rear license plate is too dim" and no citation is given, you have to wonder.

Once, at about 10 at night. I was randomly stopped after coming back from rugby practice. My windows were tinted and there were no street lights. DUring the stop the officer noticed by window tags were expired. he later said that was the reason for the stop. however, it is not possible that from his view, in the night, he could have made that stop based on the citatation. it was random and that happens. in high crime neighborhoods, where we practiced rubgy, it happens more often, and rightfully so.
besides this, there is no such thing as unfair treatment to illegal immigrants if they get arrested sans violence. it's not you, it's the neighborhood, and cops are just "looking out".
