Historic T&P Warehouse in downtown Fort Worth to become residences

It's been mostly vacant since the 1970s, though it's been the site of a legendary haunted house every Halloween.

— After four years of wrangling, the T&P Warehouse in downtown Fort Worth is going to be developed into residences -- probably apartments, says the FWST.

Considered an excellent example of the Zigzag Moderne Style, with inlaid panels of blue tile and ornamental brickwork, the building has been vacant since the '70s, used mostly as a haunted house. Cleopatra Investments, the Dallas developer, will spend at least $35 million and get up to $9.1 million in tax money -- a deal the Fort Worth council will vote on in the next few weeks.

I remember when the station and the warehouse were built in 1931 and the old station on the other side of main street was torn down. My dad was a Pullman porter and went in and out of the station at least three times a week. He worked on the MKT's Texas Special. I knew men who worked on the construction of both buildings (all dead now). I worked in the warehouse's cold storage section in 1940.I rode the T&P's Sunshine Special to El Paso in the late 1940's when a steam engine still pulled the train.
